Janet Metzger: Press

"This [debut CD "So Many Stars"] is very, very hot. I like it. It's something I know we're going to hear a lot of on this station."
Carl Anthony, host of Serenade to the City - Jazz 91.9 FM WCLK, Sept. 2004
Atlanta vocalist Janet Metzger displays a pleasant voice backed by a killer combo on her first solo CD "So Many Stars." When Metzger swings into "Day In, Day Out," prospects for a kickin' good time brighten considerably.
"You Must Believe In Spring" thumps to life via Moffett Morris' bass, a heartbeat that supports Metzger's vocals, a nest of comfortable low notes where she seems most able to give the lyrics the juice they deserve.
Metzger - who has sung at Libby's: A Cabaret, the late Blue Trout, and Churchill Grounds, among others - ends on an upswing with a jazzy 5 1/2 minute "How High The Moon."
The playful finale is roomy enough to showcase a relaxed singer and each music man - Bob Shaw on guitar, Morris on bass, Bernard Linnette on drums and Don Erdman on clarinet and saxophone.
Next time, let's hope more stars ride her vocals, as they do on "How High The Moon" and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most."

JANET METZGER - RED HOT JAZZ
Multi-talented, good-natured and funny just scratch the surface when describing Atlanta actress, law instructor and jazz diva Janet Metzger. Her recently released CD, "So Many Stars," has hit written all over it. Her release party at Churchill Grounds was a gathering of who's who in Atlanta's music scene, including a mutual friend, former Braves and Falcons front office executive Frank Spence. Many have enjoyed Janet's performances at Libby's Cabaret, the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta and Paris on Ponce, and a growing number of trial lawyers have improved their communications skills with juries thanks to Metzger's course at Emory Law School. Her CD includes fabulous arrangements of challenging numbers by Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Benny Carter and others. Janet's accompaniment includes some of the region's top talents with Bob Shaw on guitar, Moffett Morris on bass, plus Bernard Linnette on drums and Don Erdman on clarinet and sax.
Doc Lawrence - The Piedmont Review, September 2004
Listening to Metzger is like listening to a favorite jazz recording or a good friend. Her friendly charisma seduces you immediately and her throaty voice, witty stories and slightly saucy charm complement her musical choices.
